General Prognosis For Cephalohematoma's & Caput Succedaneum'sNo treatment is usually required for either type of skull hemorrhage injuries. A cephalohematoma usually lasts up to a few months, or a caput succedaneum may only last a few weeks.
Complications From Using Forceps During DeliveryIf forceps were used during the baby's delivery there may be also be a skull fracture which would be a complication in and of itself. The prognosis for skull fractures differ from that of just skull Hemorrhages.
In severe cases it is possible for the infant to develop anemia, jaundice or hypotension. A cephalohematoma or caput succedaneum may even be indicative of a skull fracture but problems like this are uncommon.
